Vintage Market Days and State Band Competition

I don't know about you, but my weekend was absolutely full this weekend. I won tickets to the Lexington Vintage Market Days, so I went both Saturday and Sunday with my daughter. My son got to join us Sunday since he was home. Saturday night, I went to Kroger Stadium to watch my son and his band march in the State Band Finals. Busy feels like it an understatement of how my weekend was.

State Band Competition

Saturday was full of different things to do. Midget had to be at school early so they could practice for semifinals and finals of the state band competition that day. I missed the first performance, but made it for the second. The parking lot was full. There were a lot of people there watching and cheering on their bands. Madison Central's parents and supports showed up red lights in hand, routing, cheering, and shouting for this great group of kids. There were 252 students on the field and in the pit, and they did an excellent job. It had been a while since I had seen a full marching band show, and this one brought back memories.

When the kids walked away from the awards ceremony, they brought the third place trophy home with them. From what I saw of 2 of the other 3 bands (I got there in the middle of one of the 5A bands performing), they should have gotten higher. They did great and each and every one of the band parents are proud of our kids and what they accomplished in two and a half months.

Next year, they will not only be getting ready for state, but they will also be getting ready for their performance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year might have been busy, but it was cake compared to what next year will be I imagine.

Lexington Vintage Market Days

As I said earlier, I won tickets for the Lexington Vintage Market Days from Popcorn Paradise KY this past week. The tickets were for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but I didn't make it Friday thanks to busy work and the rain. That was okay though, I'm still glad I got to go the other two days. There were 95 vendors there, and a lot to look at. I ended up spending way more than I should have, but the kids and I had fun, and that's what matters. I ended up getting a charm keyring, a charm bracelet, a sign for my office wall, a coffee cake, fudge, popcorn, and some tags with different little sayings and pictures on them. It was a great experience, and I'm going to have to make sure I get to go again.
